About the Role

This is a full-time position commencing in January. The role requires a skilled and dedicated professional to lead the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision for students aged 11-18 at a highly successful boys' school in Bradford. The successful candidate will join the Senior Leadership Team, driving the school's vision for inclusive education and ensuring all students access a knowledge-rich curriculum and high-quality A-Level provision where applicable.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Substantial experience leading SEND provision in a secondary school setting.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

Key Skills

  • Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to strategically lead, manage, and develop the whole-school SEND policy and provision.
  • Statutory Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and its statutory requirements, including Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with students, parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to effectively use and analyse SEND-related data to monitor progress and inform strategic planning.
  • Curriculum Adaptation: Skill in guiding curriculum leaders on effective, differentiated planning and high-quality teaching for students with SEND.
  • Assessment: Expertise in using a range of assessment tools to identify and evaluate student's special educational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of special educational needs policy and provision across the school.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school's SEND policy, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate all provision for students with EHC Plans and those receiving SEN support.
  • Act as the designated link with external agencies, including the Local Authority and health services.
  • Manage the training and deployment of the SEND support team (e.g., Teaching Assistants).
  • Maintain the school's SEND register and documentation, ensuring accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues to promote inclusive teaching practices.
  • Manage the transfer of information during student transition, especially from KS4 to KS5 and post-18.
  • Liaise with parents and carers of students with SEND, ensuring effective partnership and support.
  • Contribute to the school's Senior Leadership Team, ensuring SEND provision is integral to whole-school improvement planning.
