An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Out of Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join a highly respected Tier 3 small animal hospital in Nottinghamshire.

This is a fantastic role for a vet seeking an attractive work-life balance, a varied caseload, and the support of an experienced, certificate-led team working within a well-equipped hospital environment.

The Role

We are seeking a permanent OOH Veterinary Surgeon to support the inpatient and emergency caseload. The role involves:

• Caring for and working up any inpatients
• Receiving and managing out-of-hours emergency calls
• Covering a one-week-on, two-weeks-off rota (Monday evening to the following Monday morning); open to flexibility on other rota arrangements
• Working alongside a dedicated OOH nursing team who share the same rota
• Use of a nearby semi-detached house solely for OOH accommodation during working weeks

This rota structure provides an excellent work-life balance, with significant downtime between working weeks.

About the Hospital

This Tier 3 hospital has an outstanding local reputation and operates as a hybrid between first-opinion and referral-level care, thanks to its exceptional facilities and the expertise of its clinical team.

The hospital benefits from:

• High-end ultrasound
• Digital and dental radiography
• Endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy
• Electrocautery
• Laparoscopy
• Tonometry and slit lamp
• Fully equipped in-house laboratory (T4, SDMA, Cortisol, Bile acids, Cpli/Fpli, Coags, urine sediments, and more)
• Access to Imagyst for rapid haematology and cytology

CT Scanner Installation:

Building work begins this winter on an extension to house a CT scanner, with expected completion by March 2026—further expanding diagnostic capability.

The Caseload & Clinical Team

The hospital supports:

• A varied mix of first-opinion cases and referral-level work
• A large multidisciplinary team including numerous certificate holders
• Vets with advanced qualifications or studying towards certificates in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Dermatology, Endoscopy, and more

The surgical team routinely performs:

• BOAS procedures
• TPLO/CCWO and patella surgery
• Fracture repairs
• Cholecystectomy
• Liver lobe resections

Complementary services such as laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available.

The wider team includes over 50 clinical and support staff who share a strong ethos of compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
