An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Out of Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join a highly respected Tier 3 small animal hospital in Nottinghamshire.
This is a fantastic role for a vet seeking an attractive work-life balance, a varied caseload, and the support of an experienced, certificate-led team working within a well-equipped hospital environment.
The Role
We are seeking a permanent OOH Veterinary Surgeon to support the inpatient and emergency caseload. The role involves:
• Caring for and working up any inpatients
• Receiving and managing out-of-hours emergency calls
• Covering a one-week-on, two-weeks-off rota (Monday evening to the following Monday morning); open to flexibility on other rota arrangements
• Working alongside a dedicated OOH nursing team who share the same rota
• Use of a nearby semi-detached house solely for OOH accommodation during working weeks
This rota structure provides an excellent work-life balance, with significant downtime between working weeks.

The Caseload & Clinical Team
The hospital supports:
• A varied mix of first-opinion cases and referral-level work
• A large multidisciplinary team including numerous certificate holders
• Vets with advanced qualifications or studying towards certificates in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Dermatology, Endoscopy, and more
The surgical team routinely performs:
• BOAS procedures
• TPLO/CCWO and patella surgery
• Fracture repairs
• Cholecystectomy
• Liver lobe resections
• TECA surgery
Complementary services such as laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available.
The wider team includes over 50 clinical and support staff who share a strong ethos of compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
