Summary

Job Opportunity – Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: BA5 2TJ
Contract: Full-Time / Permanent

We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our supportive and dynamic team. The HLTA will support teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering lessons, provide whole-class teaching during teacher absences, and help raise achievement for all pupils, including those with SEN. You will promote independence, inclusion, and wellbeing, contributing to a positive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support teachers in lesson planning, resource preparation, and delivery.

Teach whole classes when teachers are absent, and provide small group/1:1 support.

Support inclusion, behaviour management, and pupil welfare.

Mentor and guide other teaching assistants and assist with staff training.

Monitor and assess pupil progress, provide feedback, and contribute to reporting.

Supervise pupils during playtimes, lunchtimes, and school activities.

Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and equal opportunity policies.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.

Experience supporting SEN/EAL pupils and diverse learning needs.

Ability to teach whole classes and deliver small group interventions.

Excellent communication, teamwork, and mentoring skills.

Knowledge of the UK curriculum (KS1 & KS2) and lesson planning.

Competent with IT and school systems.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field

QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) preferred

Enhanced DBS check required
