The post-holder will be afforded protected time to pursue an area of special interest, allowing them to cultivate expertise in one of the following fields: Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Develop skills in managing paediatric emergencies and work closely with both the PEM and paediatric teams to optimise patient pathways. Participate in PEM research through PERUKI trials, our department has recently taken part in FORCE, CRAFFT and PIC Bone. Provide educational activities at postgraduate and undergraduate level, including multidisciplinary simulation-based education, working closely with the trust simulation lead. Opportunity to complete a postgraduate diploma in paediatric emergency medicine. This post is suitable for paediatric and emergency medicine higher specialist trainees' wishing to specialise in PEM and provides valuable experience before applying to subspecialty training in PEM. Simulation and Teaching Participate in departmental teaching and educational initiatives, including in-situ simulation training, mentoring junior staff, and delivering educational sessions. Opportunities to develop simulation-based education within ED and the wider trust working closely with the departmental and trust simulation leads. Opportunity to undertake a postgraduate diploma in education Management & Leadership / Risk Lead & participate in quality improvement projects and quality & safety initiatives within the Emergency Department, working closely with the QI lead. Participate in meetings relating to Quality & Safety and Risk management. Opportunity to undertake training in patient safety and quality improvement including support to complete a PG certificate if desired. REACT (Responsive Emergency Assessment & Community Team) Working closely with medical and nursing colleagues within Palliative and Emergency Medicine to identify and support patients presenting to ED with unmet palliative care needs. If appropriate, patients will then be referred into the new 7-day Marie Curie REACT virtual ward. Opportunity to take further training in Palliative and End of Life Care or education Opportunity to be involved in service development and quality improvement within the emerging field of acute palliative care Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Medicine Participate in the established SEM/MSK training programme and working closely with our specialists. Provide education for trainees in this field. This post is designed for a Higher Specialist Trainee (or equivalent) in Emergency Medicine to: Develop / expand their skills in SEM and Musculoskeletal Medicine. Gain a qualification in SEM Publish research on their chosen area of interest in SEM/MSK Medicine Ultrasound Deliver high-quality emergency care, including advanced POCUS applications in trauma, critical care, and procedural guidance. Lead and support departmental POCUS training programs for clinicians at all levels. Contribute to the development and implementation of POCUS protocols and governance frameworks. Participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement projects related to ultrasound practice. Provide supervision and mentorship to junior doctors and allied health professionals in POCUS skills. Research Lead and contribute to research projects within the department, including study design, data collection, and analysis. Support grant applications, ethics submissions, and dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations. Collaborate with academic partners and multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative research initiatives. Mentor junior staff in research methodology and evidence-based practice.
