Role Summary
The Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology will provide senior clinical leadership across maternity and gynaecology services. The postholder will deliver high‑quality patient care in both obstetric and gynaecology settings, support junior doctors, and contribute to safe, effective service delivery during a period of staffing shortage or increased demand.

Key Responsibilities
Labour Ward Cover — Lead obstetric care, manage high‑risk pregnancies, oversee CTG interpretation, and support midwifery teams.

Antenatal & Postnatal Clinics — Conduct consultant‑led clinics, review complex cases, and ensure continuity of care.

Emergency Gynaecology — Assess and manage acute presentations, including early pregnancy complications.

Elective Gynaecology — Perform outpatient procedures, minor ops, and contribute to theatre lists (if required).

On‑Call Duties — Participate in consultant on‑call rota for obstetrics and gynaecology.

Clinical Governance — Ensure adherence to local and national guidelines (NICE, RCOG), contribute to incident reviews, and maintain high safety standards.

Teaching & Supervision — Support junior doctors, midwives, and medical students; provide clinical supervision and teaching.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration — Work closely with midwives, anaesthetists, neonatologists, and theatre teams to ensure safe patient flow.

Essential Requirements
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.

Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or within 6 months of CCT).

Valid Right to Work in the UK.

Up‑to‑date ALS/ATLS/NRP (as required by the trust).

Recent experience at Consultant level in both obstetrics and gynaecology.

Ability to work independently and manage complex clinical situations.

Desirable Skills
Advanced labour ward leadership training.

Experience in subspecialty areas (e.g., maternal medicine, urogynaecology, reproductive medicine).

Audit, research, or quality‑improvement involvement.

Experience working in NHS locum or fixed‑term consultant roles.

Working Pattern
Mixture of day shifts, nights, weekends, and on‑call depending on rota.

Clinics, theatre sessions, and labour ward cover as allocated by the department.

Flexible scheduling available depending on trust needs.

Agency & Compliance Requirements
Enhanced DBS check.

Occupational health clearance (immunisations, bloods).

Two recent clinical references.

Mandatory training certificates.
