Crynodeb
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to provide one-to-one support for students with specific medical needs. This role is crucial in helping students succeed academically and achieve their full potential while managing their health needs. You will work collaboratively with the student and the wider support team to create and implement an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Start Date: 01 January 2026
• Salary: £24,413 (full time all year) (actual annual salary will be pro rata for term time and part time hours)
• Contract: 10 hours per week on a two-term temporary contract (January – August 26)
• Live On Site Until: Friday 9th January 2026

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide one-to-one pastoral and well-being support to students with specific medical needs.
• Assist with the implementation of student's healthcare plan and to administer first aid/medication as required (following relevant training).
• Attend to students personal care needs, which may include mobility assistance or hygiene support, in line with their specific requirements.
• Develop a productive and supportive working relationship with students, acting as a positive role model and mentor to build their self-esteem and independence.
• Liaise effectively with parents/carers and external agencies (e.g. health visitors, nurses and specialists) to ensure continuity of care and support.
• Liaise with academic staff and other support professionals to ensure a cohesive support system.
• Support students within the classroom, assisting them with learning activities and helping to manage any challenging situations with a calm, restorative approach.
• Ensure all support is provided in accordance with school policies and procedures, including child protection, health, safety, security, and confidentiality.

• A compassionate and empathetic individual with a strong commitment to inclusivity.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities, additional learning needs, or medical conditions, preferably in an educational setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with the student.
• Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the student's changing needs.
The Alun School, which is situated twelve miles from the historic city of Chester, is a co-educational comprehensive school with 250 in each year group and a Sixth Form of over 350 students. Our school offers an extremely supportive environment in which to work. Students are enthusiastic to learn, and care, support and guidance is provided through our strong House system.
