Summary


Under the supervision of senior medical staff the successful candidate will manage the day to day care of surgical patients on the inpatient wards and those admitted for day surgery and as emergencies. The successful candidate will be part of the clinical team and will take part in departmental audits. The post-holder will be responsible for the day to day management of inpatients on the general surgery and outlying wards, admissions and to assist in operating theatres where appropriate supervision will be available. The post-holder will undertake the routine admission of patients before surgery, be it on a non-elective, day case basis or planned admission and will be responsible for explaining and obtaining consent for surgical procedures.

The post holder will also be responsible for the post-operative management of in patients with the help of the rest of the general surgery team e.g. discharge summaries, discharge letters and medication prescribing.
