Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Winsford-based mainstream primary school with a fantastic reputation as they are opening a mixed KS1 and KS2 resource base in January. This school is looking for a number of motivated and experienced teaching assistants to join their team on an initial temporary long-term basis, with permanent contracts being considered at a later date. This is a full-time long-term contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be joining a resource base team, consisting of the SENCO / class teacher, and a number of other teaching assistants. This resource provision will be a small class of 8 pupils across KS1 and KS2 with a dual diagnosis of ASD and GLD. You will offer comprehensive 1:1 support across the class, playing an integral part in each pupil's education. The pupils you will be supporting all have a similar diagnosis, but have drastically different personalities and responses. As to ensure that their individual needs and personalities are met, you will take a pupil-centred approach to their education. Other duties will include:
- Assisting with speech and language development via interventions and SALT
- Use of PECS and Makaton
- Implementing positive behaviour strategies i.e., traffic light systems, sensory play/therapy, etc
- Implementing regulatory strategies
- Working alongside external professionals such as occupational therapists and speech and language therapists
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience supporting children and/or young people with profound need within the last 2 years, and:
- Experience supporting SEN within a classroom or residential environment
- Experience using Makaton and/or PECS (Makaton is preferred)
- Be able to commit to a full-time contract
