We're looking for a proactive and organised Business Support Administrator to join our team and play a key part in helping our services run smoothly.
Whether you're looking to grow your existing skills or build your CV with valuable experience, this role offers a solid foundation in administration, communication, and customer service within a professional public sector setting.
It's a great fit for people at various stages of their career- including school leavers, graduates, those returning to work or anyone looking for a meaningful and stable role where they can make a real contribution. Many of our team members have progressed into other roles within the organisation.
What you'll be doing
- Support the Council's Resilience Team with data inputting of business continuity details for Council departments
- Take minutes/action notes for various statutory meetings
- Provide admin support for events and data gathering following exercises held by the Resilience team
- Provide general business and admin support to keep daily operations running smoothly
- Managing and organising information including working with confidential data, documents and records responsibly
- Using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for data entry, word processing and communication tasks
- Collaborating with internal team and external customers to provide helpful, professional service
- Helping the team meet important deadlines through strong organisation and attention to detail
What skills you need
We're proud to be an organisation led by Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility and we look for people who demonstrate these behaviours in everyday life and in their work.
We value skills developed through education, volunteering, caring responsibilities, and other life experiences - and we'll support you to grow and build confidence in the role. That said, the following skills would be useful to bring with you, or be willing to develop:
- Effective communication: Ability to interact with people both in writing and verbally
- Tech- savvy: Comfortable with Microsoft Office and eager to learn new tools and digital skills
- Working in a fast-paced environment: Comfortable managing own workload, tasks and priorities in a busy office setting, with a good understanding of day-to-day admin processes
- Organised: Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines whilst managing high volumes of data and information and maintaining attention to detail
- Customer focused: Professional, helpful approach to service delivery
- Adaptable and flexible: Ability to adjust and problem-solve as priorities shift
- Team player: Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organisation
- Confidentiality: ability to follow policies and procedures on the safe handling of sensitive information and data
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/work-us/behaviours" target="_blank">Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
