In this role, you’ll provide subject matter knowledge, guidance, and challenge to help shape how enterprise risk is managed across SBF. From embedding robust frameworks to advising on complex risk issues, you’ll play a key part in building a culture of compliance and resilience that supports our business to thrive.

Who we are.

Skipton Business Finance, part of the Skipton Group, have been helping UK SMEs fulfil their aspirations for over 20 years by providing working capital solutions that support their ambitious growth plans.

With a rich history rooted in reliability and innovation, we leverage our expertise to offer a diverse range of financial products, including Invoice Finance and Asset Based Lending. Our commitment to understanding the unique needs of each client enables us as a team to deliver personalised and responsive services, fostering long-term partnerships built on trust and mutual success.

At Skipton Business Finance, we strive to be more than just a financial provider. We aim to be a strategic partner, guiding businesses towards sustainable growth and prosperity. Join our team as we navigate the dynamic landscape of business finance together.

What you will be doing.

Reporting directly to the Head of Enterprise Risk, you will:

  • Help to embed our Group Risk Management Framework by supporting the delivery of Risk and Control Assessments and the development, enhancement and implementation of policies and procedures that keep us resilient.

  • Partner with business teams to provide practical guidanceon compliance and enterprise-wide risk matters, including the development of remediation plans when necessary.

  • Monitor and analyse enterprise risk data – through KRI’s, event reporting and operational losses - turning insights into action.

  • Identify trends and opportunities to strengthen controls and align with our risk appetite.

  • Support SBF assurance reviews and internal audits, financial crime investigations and external reporting, coordinating information flow and internal resource allocation.

  • Deliver training and awareness activities to build a strong risk culture across the organisation.

  • Stay ahead of emerging risks through horizon scanning, keeping up with industry and regulatory developments to ensure that the full suite of potential risks affecting SBF are identified, understood and managed.

What do we need from you.

We’re looking for someone who combines technical know-how with great people skills and a proactive mindset. Here’s what will help you succeed:

Skills & Strengths

  • Solid understanding of enterprise risk management - from identifying and assessing risks to managing them effectively.

  • Strong data analysis skills, able to interpret complex information and present it clearly to different audiences, including Senior Leaders.

  • Highly organised with attention to detail, and confident working independently to drive continuous improvement.

  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor your approach to the bigger picture.

  • An ability to adapt to changing priorities, managing conflicting deadlines and able to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Familiarity with risk management tools, techniques, and practices within financial services.

  • Extensive experience in compliance, enterprise risk, or a related role within financial services.

  • Experience preparing committee papers, reports, and policy documentation.

  • Experience in a financial crime area within financial services is an advantage.

  • Experience in change management would be beneficial, though not essential.

What’s in it for you.

  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days.

  • Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days.

  • Quarterly discretionary bonus scheme.

  • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum).

  • A commitment to training and development.

  • Private medical insurance for all our colleagues.

  • Salary Sacrifice Scheme for Hybrid/Electric Car.

  • Colleague Mortgage (conditions apply).

  • Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups.

  • We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership.
