Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic midwife to provide both clinical and managerial leadership within the maternity unit. The post holder will be a Registered Practising Midwife responsible for leading and coordinating the Systematic Examination of the Newborn (SEN) service at the Royal London Maternity Services, ensuring full compliance with National Screening Standards.
The SEN Practitioner Lead will oversee the management and delivery of the SEN programme, offering leadership, clinical expertise, student midwives support and support across all maternity areas where newborn examinations are performed.
· Monitoring day-to-day compliance with SEN programme standards.
· Overseeing the S4N failsafe system for all babies born at the unit or returning to the local catchment area, ensuring examinations are completed within 72 hours of birth.
· Maintaining a visible presence in clinical practice to ensure high standards of care are consistently met
· Fulfil a range of leadership and clinical duties, supporting service delivery and development.
· Provide cover for the Postnatal Lead Midwife during periods of absence.
· Support other clinical areas during designated administrative days.
· Collaborate effectively with midwives, student midwives, and the wider multidisciplinary team to uphold service quality and continuity of care
· The individual should be visible and accessible to women and their families and staff, ensuring all women and their families could seek information, help, and support or to communicate problematic or celebratory issues.
· The post will be based at Royal London Hospital although the role will also involve supporting and working closely with other maternity sites within Barts Health.
· Contribute to discharge planning by liaising between inpatient maternity services, NICU and Community Midwifery Service.
· The post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams within Barts Health and the LMNS in facilitating In-utero and Ex-utero transfers in a timely manner
· The post holder will demonstrate clinical expertise, competency in practice and be a role model.
· This role is a Monday to Friday job to ensure SEN leadership oversight within the service.
