Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Ultra Maritime is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. You will play a key role in the design, development, testing, and documentation of mechanical assemblies for advanced marine systems. This covers concept generation through to production support, giving you full lifecycle exposure on complex engineering programmes.
About the RoleAs a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the development of innovative mechanical solutions for integrated systems. You will contribute to architecture definition, requirements validation, design creation, documentation, and test activities, while collaborating closely with engineering colleagues across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities• Contribute to the definition of mechanical architecture, system and sub-system requirements, and support associated validation and verification tasks.
• Develop, document and deliver robust mechanical solutions using internal engineering toolsets.
• Produce and peer review mechanical design documentation, design data packs, analysis, plans, and procedures in line with the product development framework.
• Develop mechanical test solutions and procedures to support hardware verification.
• Support mechanical integration, verification and acceptance testing, including evidence collection and presentation.
• Present mechanical design solutions, progress and risks to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide in-service and production support to internal teams and customers.
• Act as a technical lead on designated projects or activities when required.
• Support continuous improvement of mechanical engineering processes, tools and standards.
• Adhere to company engineering procedures and governance.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers.
• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in a complex engineering environment.
• Demonstrable experience across the full lifecycle of mechanical system development.
• Mechanical design and documentation experience using MCAD, MCAE, PLM and ERP toolsets, such as Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Windchill, IFS or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including material selection, manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
• Hands-on experience designing complex multi-disciplinary systems, with an understanding of the associated risks and challenges.
• Proven record of delivering reliable mechanical solutions on time and to requirements.
• Ability to achieve or hold SC security clearance.
• Experience designing products for the Defence sector, ideally maritime systems.
• Experience in mechanical analysis, trade studies, modelling, simulation, and engineering calculations.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise and deliver work effectively within deadlines.
