Summary

Location: Home Based with regular regional travel in JTL's Western region.

Contract: Temporary, Fixed Term Contract until approximately September 2026.

Working pattern/hours: Full time. Normal working hours are 35 per week, excluding 1-hour main meal break.

Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on skills and experience.

About the role

This role will require travel to JTL centres in the Western region. These are: Birmingham, Telford, Oxford and Yeovil.



Job Purpose:

To deliver high quality Functional Skills (FS) provision to apprentices in a designated region and, occasionally, nationally.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Prepare and plan for the effective delivery of functional skills to meet the region’s needs.
To closely manage a caseload of apprentices and communicate their progress to various internal and external stakeholders.
To deliver face-to-face classes and remote online classes, utilising a range of engaging and interesting resources for Functional Skills English, Maths and some ICT in line with JTL’s teaching and learning strategy.
To provide remote support to apprentices undertaking independent functional skills study.
Maintain good administrative records using JTL’s systems to monitor apprentice progress and enable effective tracking.
Communicate well with regional delivery staff and management to ensure functional skills delivery is prioritised effectively and classes are well-attended.
Support every apprentice to achieve functional skills in a timely manner and in line with awarding organisation standards.
Conduct moderation activities of Functional Skills English, Speaking, Listening and Communication component in line with awarding organisation regulations.
To work closely with the Quality and Curriculum Team to ensure the functional skills curriculum is fit for purpose and improve the quality of functional skills provision.
Support the development of functional skills resources, building a range of blended delivery options for apprentices to access.
Undertake assessment evidence sampling of functional skills qualifications in line with IQA requirements and report on this activity to the Quality and Curriculum Team.
Support further skills development and complete CPD, identifying and sharing best practice to enable the ongoing development of teaching and learning.
Arranging and overseeing timely booking of exams to support apprentice completion
Support invigilation of functional skills exams where needed.


Person Specification

Essential Requirements:

A minimum of O level, GCSE grade C/4 or level 3 equivalent in maths and English
A Level 5 Diploma in Teaching with specialist pathway in English (Literacy) or Mathematics (Numeracy) (DTLLS') or equivalent
Previous experience of functional skills delivery within a post-16 environment
Experience working with BKSB, LMS’s and e-portfolio software
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage time effectively
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
Excellent IT and communication skills, including the use of learning delivery technology and remote learning solutions
Driving Licence and use of a car

Desirable:

Assessor and Internal Verification qualifications e.g., D32/D33 D34 A1 TAQA or V1/IQA
QTS/QTLS status, Subject specialism for literacy and/ or numeracy
