Summary

Job Title: Assistant SENDCo

Salary: £27,713 - £30,250 (depending on qualifications and experience)
Bonus: £2,000 Welcome Bonus for candidates with SEN experience*
Hours: 40 hours per week, Term Time only - Start time: 8.15am, Finish times: Mon-Wed 4.45pm, Thu 5pm, Fri 4pm


Your new company

We are delighted to be supporting a brand-new specialist secondary school in Chaldon, Surrey, in September 2025. The school will cater for young people aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. With small class sizes, high levels of classroom support, and a dedicated multidisciplinary intervention team, our students will have every opportunity to thrive. This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at the very start of its journey and help shape its inclusive ethos.
Your new role

The Assistant SENDCo will work closely with the SENDCo to promote an inclusive approach to SEN across the school. You will also support staff, students, and families to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners.
Key Duties

  • Recording & Assessment
    • Establish systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring needs
    • Chair Annual Reviews for EHCPs
    • Keep parents informed through meetings and parents' evenings

  • Leadership
    • Support SENDCo in delivering training for teachers and support staff
    • Share best practice in SEN across the school
    • Support transition arrangements and integration into provision
    • Liaise with external professionals and disseminate reports to staff
    • Stay up to date with developments in SEN and feedback to SLT
    • Attend CPD and conferences, sharing learning with colleagues
    • Model good practice in teaching pupils with SEN, including complex needs

  • Other Responsibilities
    • Undertake reasonable tasks requested by the Headteacher
    • Contribute to duties and extracurricular activities


What you'll need to succeed

  • SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred (or willingness to work towards)
  • GCSE Maths & English minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent)
  • Teaching qualification desirable (required for National Award in SEND Coordination)
  • Relevant and recent experience of working with pupils with SEN
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
