Summary

We are seeking a Senior Student Casework Officer to join our Student Casework Team in the Academic Registry on a fixed-term basis for 9 months to cover maternity leave. This is a part-time role (28 hours per week), with working hours to be agreed with the successful candidate. The role is eligible for secondment.


Reporting to the Senior Student Casework Manager, the post-holder will lead and supervise casework activity across the University, managing their own caseload of complex and high-risk student cases. The role involves providing expert guidance, leading improvement initiatives, and contributing to institutional strategy related to student casework. You will work collaboratively with senior leaders to enhance regulatory compliance and deliver high-quality support to faculties and partners.


The successful candidate will have:


Significant experience supporting student casework at a senior level in Higher Education (or equivalent experience in complaints, conduct, and appeals).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations diplomatically.
Strong analytical and writing skills, including experience producing policies, reports, and decision notices.
A deep understanding of procedural fairness, natural justice, and risk in casework.
A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, including cultural competency and bias awareness.

The working pattern for this post is 28 hours per week to be agreed between the hours of 8.30-17.15 Mon-Thurs and 8.30-16.15 Fridays


Whilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role.


The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on 16 December 2025.


This appointment is a Fixed term contract starting on 19 January 2026 until 02 November 2026 (or the earlier return of the substantive post holder) to cover a period of maternity leave.
