Summary

About the role
As a Visitor Experience Duty Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting the largest team in the Museum, ensuring our Visitor Experience Assistants (VEAs) deliver exceptional service to every visitor.

You will also support our security operation by ensuring that public areas are always efficiently staffed and that the team is well trained, motivated and managed. Working closely with Supervisors and the Head and Deputy Head of Visitor Experience, you will help to deliver the Museum’s strategic goals and key aims of the Visitor Experience Team.

You will take an active role in maintaining safety standards, managing daily briefings, coordinating staff, and ensuring smooth operations across all museum spaces. This position also involves supporting visitor-facing volunteers, managing visitor queries and incidents with professionalism, and maintaining a positive and inclusive working culture.

You will want to learn and grow as part of the Visitor Experience Team and beyond. We are looking for someone willing to take opportunities for personal development and growth as well as proactively seek out opportunities relevant to their role.

This is a permanent, variable hours post, requiring flexibility to work a range of shifts including weekends, bank holidays and occasional evenings.

This role involves lifting, carrying and moving objects (with or without adaptations) which on occasion may by heavy. All necessary health and safety training will be provided.

This role involves interacting with visitors, volunteers and the front of house team while moving around galleries. The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods is required, since there is limited opportunity to sit during the shift.

About You
You will have a genuine enthusiasm for working in a visitor-facing environment.

You will demonstrate sound judgement, tact and diplomacy when managing challenging circumstances, as well as a commitment to teamwork and personal development.

You will have a good understanding of workplace health and safety and be able to ensure relevant policies are correctly followed.

Flexibility and reliability are key, as the role involves working varied shifts and operational demands.

You will also have good communication skills, including the ability to engage with a diverse audience of visitors and team members.
