Summary
SEMH Teaching Assistant
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic candidate with plenty of initiative to support students in a specialist secondary school in Preston.
Prospero has partnered with a specialists SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provisions in Preston that supports pupils aged 11 - 16 who have a wide range of emotional and behavioural needs. Many of the pupils have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings and require a nurturing, structured, and relational approach to education.

Role Overview:
Position: Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Preston
Contract Type: Full Time
Rate of Pay: £475.00 - £550.00 per week
Working Hours: 08:30 - 15:30
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
- Assist in delivering tailored interventions and behaviour strategies
- Foster positive relationships and promote emotional regulation
- Support classroom routines and learning activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
Requirements:
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant working with children or young people with SEMH or SEN
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. TA Level 2/3, Youth Work, Psychology) desirable
- Ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable learners
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
- Hold Right to Work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide professional references covering 2 years
