Are you ready to take the lead in shaping a safer, healthier future? We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Practitioner to join our team and make a real impact across a diverse range of services.


In this high-profile role, you’ll be at the heart of delivering our Health &; Safety Management Framework, ensuring compliance with legislation while driving a proactive, positive safety culture throughout the Council. Your expertise will help us create safe, healthy working environments for every colleague, every day.

You’ll provide expert advice across all Council services, influencing leadership and supporting teams to embed best practice. This is your chance to shape policy, guide strategy, and champion innovation in health and safety.


It is essential that you hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and it is desirable that you have an understanding of the health, safety and well-being issues in a local government context, in particular the diversity of services provided.

You must be a chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent professional body.

You will have extensive experience in a health and safety environment, ideally within a multi-disciplinary environment, aswell as experience designing and delivering health and safety training courses, investigating accidents and recommending preventative measures, local authority experience or experience within a large organisation and Provision of advice and guidance on health and safety matters to managers and employees at all levels.

You must be an effective communicator with IT skills, including Microsoft applications and health & safety software systems and have experience in developing policies and procedures within a large organisation.

Effective management of resources, including people, property, financial and ICT in order to achieve excellence in service delivery and organisational capability is essential as is a Full driving licence.

Flexibility to cover events out with normal hours and weekends is also essential.

As part of the interview, you will be required to provide a presentation on the current health and safety impacts on a local authority.
