Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Women’s Health Hubs:
HMP Send, HMP Bronzefield and HMP Downview
About the role
We are looking for highly skilled and motivatedAdvanced Practitioners (ANPs)to join our newWomen’s Health Hubs (WHH)within our female prisons. These hubs are pioneering, nurse-led/nurse-delivered services designed to deliver accessible, trauma-informed and patient-centred care, addressing a broad spectrum of women’s health needs in line with the national model.
Women in prison often face complex physical and mental health challenges, including trauma, self-harm, substance misuse, chronic illness, and reproductive health issues. Marginalised groups and young adults in custody may also experience limited access to consistent sexual health education and timely healthcare support.
As a Band 7 AP, you will provide clinical leadership and advanced practice to ensure these women receive the care they need and deserve.
We are seeking experienced APs who are:
• NMC/HCPC registered nurses with relevant postgraduate qualifications in advanced practice
• Skilled in independent clinical assessment, diagnosis, and non-medical prescribing
• Experienced in women’s health, sexual and reproductive health, or chronic disease management
• Committed to trauma-informed, person-centred care for vulnerable populations
• Confident leaders able to drive innovation, integration and improvement in clinical practice
• Adaptable, compassionate, and resilient in working within a secure environment
• The opportunity to shape and lead a new, innovative model of care for women in prison
• A supportive, multidisciplinary environment with access to supervision and development and training opportunities via our clinical leadership career pathway
• A role that makes a lasting difference, improving health outcomes and empowering women in custody
Key responsibilities (please see attached JD for full info)
• Act as a clinical lead within the Women’s Health Hub, supporting service development and integration
• Undertake advanced clinical assessments and diagnostic decision-making
• Initiate and manage treatment plans for women with complex health needs
• Provide specialist expertise in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, menopause management, and chronic disease care
• Deliver structured, proactive care to reduce reliance on urgent and emergency interventions
• Support trauma-informed, holistic, and patient-centred approaches to care
• Mentor and support colleagues, fostering a culture of professional development and high standards of care
