Summary

Advocates support people to express their views, understand their rights and make informed decisions. Much of their work is with some of the most vulnerable in our society who cannot speak up for themselves and have no family members or friends who can do so. Most of what we do operates within the legislative frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Mental Health Act, and NHS Health Complaints process.

For this exciting multi-disciplinary role, we need you to have a particular interest in Independent Mental Health Advocacy and/or Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy, supporting clients mainly in the Southwark area.

The successful person will have the creativity and enthusiasm to support people in difficult circumstances, ideally with experience in a health or social care setting and/or working with vulnerable people, and able to balance direct work with people with important administrative tasks, in an organised and flexible way.

You’ll mainly be working from home but also engaging with your colleagues and external people in a variety of community settings, so will need to have skills in communicating with a variety of different people. The people we support are often in the process of making some difficult decisions, so you will need to be supportive and boundaried in your approach.

A full driving licence and own transport is desirable, due to the out-of-area work in outer London Boroughs and the Southeast.
We also need you to live within the London area.
