Summary
Key Areas/TasksCommunication & Relationships Skills Manage and facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities being identified within the multi-professional team Manage the clinical band 6 team, delivering on rotas and appraisals There is a requirement to exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff and carers requiring tact and diplomacy. The post holder needs to ensure that all barriers to understanding are overcome by using differing strategies to meet individual need. Lead on the screening of high risk patients and their subsequent management through the programme National Team meeting attendance and representation Linking with National Governance and Responsible Assessors for the role to confirm compliance with Quality Assurance and Standard Protocol with Risk Management for any deviation from the standards Lead on complaint and all DATIX matters in line with Trust and National Governance Frameworks Lead on the clinical roll out of the programme throughout Staffordshire. Creating the clinical pathways for other Trust Organisations and management of the patients through local and regional MDT meetings Lead on the roll out of the programme into Prisons and delivery of the programme within the 11 prisons throughout Staffordshire. Will liaise with clinical experts in aspects of critical care to ensure patients are managed effectively It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment Knowledge, Training & Experience Current NMC registration Have experience in Respiratory care/respiratory related cancers Formal leadership and management training The post holder will act as a specialist in the field of Lung Health, collaborating with all members of the multi-professional team. The individual will provide highly specialised nursing knowledge and expertise on the various aspects of care for patients through the pathway Evidence of study at degree level in Health/Nursing Related Studies Formal leadership and management training CORE20PLUS5 health inequalities knowledge to add the roll out of screening with identifying approaches to reduce inequalities and improve cancer survival rates Advanced Communication skills Training in Cancer course Good Clinical Practice Course Minimum of 3 years post registration experience to include 1 year experience of management IRMER Qualified Ability to lead change and lead new ways of working Awareness of National Screening Quality Assurance and delivery of National Programmes Analytical & Judgemental Skills The post holder will be responsible for the screening assessment of patients, development, implementation and evaluation of the National programme of care in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and reflect the Trusts policies, procedures standards and guidelines. The post holder will demonstrate the skills for teaching and training the clinical team in the delivery of lung cancer screening Lead on the MDT making clinical judgments and referrals for patients who have been screened including all patients referrals throughout Staffordshire The post holder will spend significant time on computers. Looking into audits to breaches to the Standard Protocol, the TLHC System, National Datix site. Experience in EXCEL and ideally Electronic pathways referrals to other Trusts would be essential. Keen analytical skills to aid data trends and management of the risk register Planning & Organisational Skills The post holder will prioritise, plan workload and organise own time. The role will be face to face screening throughout Staffordshire and requirement to attend National Meetings will be required. Lead on the principles of clinical governance ensuring that quality standards are set and monitored. Ensure that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of the department function and any deviation is reported to the National Team. Manages the planning and organisation of staff delegation and activity for patients, making short term adjustments to electronic duty rosters and SafeCare where required. Required to co-ordinate activities with other professional agencies. Physical Skills The post holder will be required to attend the mobile unit around Staffordshire to conduct face to face appointments for patients. The post holder will be required to screen patients face to face in prison settings, community and hard to reach CORE20PLUS5 groups to reduce inequalities The post holder will be required to demonstrate clinical skills The post holder will be required to have standard keyboard skills, use of presentation, projection/multimedia equipment and e-learning resources. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors and to be accountable for own clinical practice and professional actions at all times. Ensure continued and effective registration with the NMC. Develop specialised programmes of care / care packages providing specialised advice concerning care. Provide specialist advice relating to nursing care for the speciality of patient Responsibility for Policy/Service Development Implements policies and procedures, and proposes changes to practices for own area, contributing to the development of specialist protocols. Delivery of education to support staff in the adoption of new policies and procedures. Lead on the development and implementation of local Standard operating procedures, patient information and policies Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources To work with the Programme Lead to deliver the programme within the financial envelope increasing screening capacity as required To manage the rota to ensure cost effectiveness of the programme Responsibility for Human Resources To provide leadership to the clinical team and identify innovation in clinical practice To effectively manage the Lung Cancer Screening Team To conduct the performance review of all Lung Cancer screening team members which will include annual appraisal and individual personal development plans to monitor staff performance against objectives set with them. Manage sickness and absence on a shift basis in line with the sickness and absence policy and the principles of safe staffing document. Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff for the department. Contribute to the formal induction of all new staff. Participate in the preceptorship of newly appointed staff and the education of learners and clinical support workers
