We have vacancies on acute medical wards at St George's and senior health at Queen Mary's Hospital.
Working under the supervision of the qualified nursing staff, the HCA will participate and support the members of the multi-disciplinary team in delivering high quality patient care.
Direct / Personal Patient Care– assist patients / clients with washing, dressing, toileting, eating and drinking, mobility, end of life care, comfort, positioning, and pressure ulcer prevention. Support patient’s emotional wellbeing, assist with managing the confused or challenging patient. Record episodes of care on patient electronic record.
Indirect care– bed making, managing patient’s property, cleaning of equipment, tidying, stocking up, running errands, health promotion, answering the telephone, escorting patients, supporting family and visitors.
Assessment– taking, recording and reporting observations: i.e., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, blood sugar, height and weight, ECG’s; recording fluid and food input and output; collecting specimens – blood, urine, stool etc. Record assessments on patient electronic record and notify clinical staff of any abnormalities / concerns.
Patient safety– follow infection control procedures, report incidents, manage risks, correctly dispose of waste, adhere to recommendations for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and risk assessments appropriate to the clinical area,
