What you’ll do:

- Deliver 1:1 and small group maths clinics for KS3 and KS4.
- Model worked examples, guide independent practice and check understanding quickly.
- Use diagnostic questions to spot misconceptions and close gaps.
- Prepare lean resources, quick reference sheets and retrieval drills.
- Support calm starts, transitions and equipment checks so lessons run smoothly.
- Track impact with simple checklists and share next steps with the maths team.
- Observe expert teachers each week, then co-plan and teach short segments that build to full lessons.

Who you are:
Clear, methodical and reliable. You break problems into simple steps, communicate precisely and act on feedback. You want QTS in maths and you are ready to learn fast.

Requirements

- Degree – 2:2 or above in a Maths related subject.
- Communication – Precise written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education or with children – Strong motivation to qualify as a Maths Teacher.
- Experience working with children – Tutoring, mentoring or school experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Edgbaston secondary serves a diverse intake and maintains calm corridors with clear behaviour routines. Maths is well led. Curriculum maps sequence small steps with regular low stakes checks. Methods are consistent across classes, so intervention aligns with teaching. You will have access to item banks, model solutions, manipulatives and diagnostic quizzes. Coaching is frequent and actionable. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly CPD and a trained mentor who supports planning, assessment and classroom routines. Outcomes in maths are strong, and the department has a track record of moving graduates into permanent ECT posts.

Progression to ITT:
You begin as an Academic Coach. You then step into Unqualified Teacher duties with timetabled classes and close mentoring. You progress onto paid ITT with professional studies, regular observations and clear evidence towards QTS.

How to Apply
Email your CV and confirm January availability and DBS status. Add two referees if possible. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
