Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiast HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist interested in joining our excellent team in the Haematology/Blood Transfusion Network of Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services. This post is based at University Hospital Coventry (UHCW). The department is UKAS ISO15189:2022 accredited and has IBMS training status. UHCW is a very busy major trauma centre.
Applicants must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist and have experience of working in a diagnostic laboratory in the UK. You should be a highly motivated, forward thinking team player who is able to manage a busy workload.
The successful applicant will join our team of BMS staff and following all appropriate training will be expected to participate in our 24/7 Blood Transfusion and Haematology service.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
As HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist your main duties will include, but not limited to:
• Perform and interpret routine biomedical investigations by participating in regular daily workloads, as directed by management, in line with your skills, experience, and competencies.
• Maintain standards of conduct required by the HCPC to practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist.
• Process specimens and handle sensitive information with care and due diligence, such as patient results, in line with local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Support BMAs by ensuring performance is in line with laboratory standards.
• Ensure compliance with all legislative and quality requirements of regulatory directives, accreditation bodies, and local management, including UKAS and MHRA and SOPs.
• Participate in quality management activities, including inspections, audits, and incident reporting as required.
• Utilise the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Q-Pulse quality management database, and other relevant software to ensure high-quality, reliable data capture and entry.

• The role is based in haematology and blood transfusion at UHCW, however there will be an expectation to rotate to other sites when required.
• The role involves the issue of high quality blood results for haematology, blood transfusion, coagulation and blood film morphology.
• Some specialist Haematology testing is performed at this site such as Hb electrophoresis.
• This role also involves the safe issue of blood, blood components and blood products to patients in routine and emergency circumstances.
• It will involve ensuring quality management systems are maintained.
• Staff will be expected to carry out audits following appropriate training.
