Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent with an impressive track record and a specialist qualification in at least one aspect of SEN, alongside QTS.
2. Has recent, relevant experience of some small group teaching or supporting within an SEN Department (5 years minimum)
3. Recent and relevant professional development.
4. Has the knowledge and understanding of current and national issues in relation to student development, student progress and raising achievement at KS3&4.
5. A deep and broad knowledge of the relevance of SEN, including a sound understanding of assessment.
6. Knowledge of the use of data, tracking and target setting to raise attainment at individual student, group and cohort level.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a range of audiences.
8. Proven management, administrative and organisational skills.
9. Good understanding of best practice and current educational thinking.
10. Demonstrates clear strategic thinking on how to support students with identified needs to make progress.
11. Plans interventions and personalisation to achieve progression in students learning.
12. Ensures effective teaching of small groups and individuals
13. Makes effective use of assessment information on student’s attainment.
14. Has high disciplinary standards and can manage difficult behaviour.
15. Has the skills and aptitude to lead and manage HLTA’s and be accountable for outcomes SEN support staff
16. Is able to monitor student and staff performance
17. Is able to evaluate and review progress and evaluate change.
18. A commitment to, and understanding of, the wider aspects of student development, including students with additional needs.
19. Has the ability to plan and lead on whole-school initiatives.
20. Successful practice that embodies the principles of Every Child Matters
21. A willingness to initiate and participate in both cross curricular and extra-curricular activities, as well as demonstrating successful involvement in all aspects of school life.
22. Has the ability to work with parents, external agencies and the wider community.
23. Is determined to promote a culture that celebrates success.
24. Is a strong role model for staff and students including having excellent attendance and punctuality.
25. Is flexible, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
