ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an inspirational and highly successful Assistant Principal: Teaching and Learning to join our Senior Leadership Team for a 1 year maternity cover (April 2026 to April 2027). Newcastle Sixth Form College offers an academic A Level curriculum in an inclusive and aspirational environment, where students are supported to go on to exceptional destinations. Almost 1300 students choose to study with us each year, often travelling long distances to do so. As a result of high quality teaching and learning, and a well embedded respect ethos, students at Newcastle Sixth Form College are significantly more likely to progress to university based on starting points than students nationally.


The Assistant Principal: Teaching and Learning is central to the college's Senior Leadership Team, driving on improvements to meet the strategic aims of the college. This key role leads on the development of teaching, learning and assessment and the wider quality improvement process. The Assistant Principal runs the college evaluation of TLA programme and uses that to inform high quality professional development that helps all colleagues thrive. They also have responsibility for line managing one of the Directors of Faculty and the Early Careers Lead. The Assistant Principal will promote the highest standards among staff and students to ensure that the college is academic, inclusive, aspirational and adds value. The successful candidate should have a track record of successfully supporting students to make strong progress in their subject area. They will be proactive and self-motivated, with a 'no barriers to success' attitude. The Assistant Principal: Teaching and Learning will promote the highest standards among staff and students across Newcastle Sixth Form College, leading a culture of high expectations to ensure all of our students achieve their full potential.
