Harpenden Mencap is registered charity that provides care and support to adults with learning disabilities in Harpenden and St Albans. We are a vibrant community of 33 adults receiving accomadation based support and many more active members of our clubs.

What does this Support Worker job involve?

Hours of Work:Up to 37 Hours Per Week - Very Flexible - Variety of Hours & Shifts Available (Full/Part Time)

• To provide an outstanding level of support and promote positive relationships.
• Supporting people to participate in their local community and social events.
• Supporting with budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking healthy meals.
• You may help people to get ready for their day by prompting or administering medication, assisting with bathing, showering and using the toilet and dressing.
• You will act as a key worker to the people we support, developing and reviewing care plans in collaboration with individuals and the team.
• You will need to maintain excellent verbal and written communication at all times and utilise digital technology where required.

We expect people to have:

• Transferrable experience or knowledge which would benefit adults with learning disabilities.
• An experience of communicating positively with a variety of people with differing abilities
• The ability to work as part of a team
• A good standard of verbal and written English to maintain records.
• A commitment to person centred thinking and a willingness to take the lead from the people we support.

The positions we are recruiting for are lone working in peoples own homes and will require someone with a positive 'can do' attitude. This is an exciting opportunity to support and empower an individual in managing his own home for the first time. We are looking for a patient, compassionate and resilient Support Worker who has a good sense of humor – a desire to be part of someone’s success – no matter how small, will be essential.
