Summary

To assume responsibility for co-ordinating clinical care for the ward and act as a role model for members of the team.o Build and maintain sound therapeutic relationships with patients and their families and carers.o Organise and supervise the pre-admission assessments, admission, transfer and discharge of patients.o To undertake Unit Co-ordinator responsibilities as directed by Ward Manager / Clinical Nurse Specialist.o To regularly take charge of the ward and deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager.o Accept professional responsibility for the delivery of care.o To lead a team that promotes and maintains the highest standard of care at all times, assuming supervision of staff at Band 5 and below.o Assist with setting and monitoring of clinical standards within the immediate clinical area, ensuring measurable outcomes are achieved.o Accept and participate in regular supervision with Ward Manager.o Facilitate clinical supervision with members of the nursing team.o Keep the Ward Manager informed of any pertinent matters relating to patient care.o When in charge ensuring that all necessary information is collated and related to other necessary personnel and appropriate action taken to resolve the situation.o Develop a high degree of autonomy and responsibility while remaining within the overall clinical direction of the ward and accountable to the service manager.o Demonstrate an understanding of and support the principles of advocacy.o Actively promote an awareness and understanding of issues surrounding equality and diversity.o Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times.o Delegate fairly to staff, appropriate to their ability and the workload of the unit.o Familiarise and carry out procedures in accordance with laid down Trust policies and local procedures, e.g., fire, health and safety.o Maintain good order and cleanliness on the ward in line with infection control procedures and audit.o Maintain safe custody of medicines and their administration in line with national/local policies and guidelines.o Contribute to a systematic individualised care planning approach to patients care with the involvement of allied disciplines and modern nursing strategies.o Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.o Be fully conversant with the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983, Discharge and After Care Policies including: - the Care Programme Approach.Ability to work with other disciplines to maximum extent and develop skills in a variety of inputs.
