talentED are recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Bury St Edmunds.
About the Role
The role of a Teaching Assistant in a special educational needs (SEN) setting is varied and highly rewarding. You will play a vital part in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing, and development.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting classroom activities: Assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and helping pupils access learning materials and activities.
Providing individualised support: Offering one-to-one or small group support to help students understand and complete tasks, adapting materials where necessary.
Assisting with personal care: Depending on the needs of the pupils, supporting with feeding, toileting, or hygiene routines in a respectful and professional manner.
Promoting positive behaviour: Supporting pupils to manage their emotions and behaviour, following agreed strategies and fostering a calm, inclusive classroom environment.
Requirements
Availability during term time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (or already hold one on the Update Service)
Previous experience working with children, young people, or adults with additional needs is desirable but not essential — transferable skills from other roles or studies will also be considered
A patient, empathetic, and positive approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure
Willingness to complete online vetting checks including right to work, references, and health questionnaire
Pay and Benefits
Hourly rate: £12.26 – £14.50 per hour (PAYE)
Pay includes 12.07% statutory holiday pay, paid during school holidays
Term-time only employment

Potential to transition to a permanent role after one or two terms, depending on the school’s needs and your performance
