In line with Scottish Government targets, duties of the post include: promoting health and wellbeing within the context of a meaningful and person centred activity programme; liaising with care home managers to plan and prepare a range of activities which are suitable for older people with a variety of needs such as physical, cognitive and in particular dementia; purchasing equipment/access services which will aid development of activities; investigating the provision of transport to relevant activities.

You will plan, prepare, and deliver an activity programme which will enhance the quality of care provided to residents in local authority care homes.

It is essential that you have previous experience of working with older people and are able to understand and respond to their changing needs; have efffective organisational skills with the ability to communicate with the client group, especially those with dementia and other specialist needs. You must be a flexible and motivated team player; have a positive view of the welfare of people and families experiencing difficulties; be innovative with the ability to source future development opportunities and have a responsible approach to sensitive information. You must also be flexible to work across our Older People’s Services and to work outwith core times when required.

Experience of working in the voluntary sector; managing and monitoring budgets and knowledge and ideas of activities appropriate to the client group would be desirable.

An SVQ level 3 in Social Care or other equivalent discipline is also desirable.
