Summary
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £45,000 + Bonus
A leading insurer is seeking a P&C Underwriter with a strong casualty focus to join its growing regional team in Birmingham. This is a key strategic hire as part of a broader investment into the Midlands, offering the opportunity to influence portfolio growth and build strong market relationships. This role would suit an experienced underwriter ready to step into a senior position or someone already operating at that level, looking to shape the next phase of a regional P&C build-out.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Underwrite a mix of new and renewal mid-market business across casualty, property and package, with a particular emphasis on casualty risks.
- Lead new business development efforts and maintain broker relationships, especially within the Birmingham market.
- Represent the P&C proposition at broker meetings, events, and client reviews.
- Work collaboratively across teams, including distribution and other underwriting lines, to uncover cross-sell opportunities.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters, setting a high standard in technical ability and customer engagement.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven underwriting experience, ideally with a strong casualty background, and exposure to property or package risks.
- Confident broker engagement skills, with an established or developing network in the Midlands.
- A commercial mindset with the ability to identify and deliver on growth opportunities.
- Technically sound, with the ability to trade profitably and independently, supported by wide underwriting authority.
- Comfortable contributing to a rebuild and transformation agenda, with flexibility and drive to help shape a high-performing team.
What’s in it for you:
You’ll join a business actively investing in its regional presence and underwriting talent, offering long-term career development, excellent leadership support, and the chance to help shape a growing Birmingham team. There’s strong backing behind this hire, including opportunities to work on multinational risks and help lead the expansion into package products, all within a collaborative and commercially focused environment.
This is an exciting time to join a business investing in its people, products, and presence in the market. If you’re looking to take ownership of a key regional underwriting role and help drive future growth, we’d love to hear from you.
