An established environmental consultancy is seeking a motivated and experienced Principal Consultant to lead nature-positive solutions for a diverse portfolio of national clients. The organisation specialises in enhancing biodiversity and delivering Environmental Net Gain (ENG) strategies across sectors including development, infrastructure, retail, and non-profits.


Your new role
You'll join a collaborative team of environmental professionals committed to sustainable placemaking. Your role will focus on designing and delivering ENG services that integrate biodiversity, carbon, nutrient neutrality, and woodland creation into land use and development strategies.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of ENG and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) strategies
  • Deliver onsite, offsite, and strategic assessments for biodiversity, carbon, and nutrient neutrality
  • Oversee ecological surveys, impact assessments, and regulatory submissions (e.g., EcIA, HRA, EIA chapters)
  • Produce and review complex technical reports to ensure quality and compliance
  • Manage client relationships and project delivery, including budgets and resources
  • Mentor and train junior consultants, supporting career development




What you'll need to succeed

  • 5+ years in ecology consultancy, with 3+ years in a senior role
  • Proven delivery of ENG projects across biodiversity, carbon, water, air, and placemaking
  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience
  • Deep understanding of BNG metrics, field assessments, and strategic land planning
  • Familiarity with environmental planning systems in England (Scotland/Wales a plus)
  • BSc in environmental discipline + professional membership (e.g., CIEEM, IEMA)
