GUY’S AND ST THOMAS’ HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
CLINICAL FELLOW (TRUST DOCTOR) POSTS IN SURGICAL SPECIALTIES
SALARY (GRADE FROM ST3-ST8) Full-time: 12 months
Applications are invited for Clinical Fellow in Paediatric General Surgery at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Job summaries are included within the generic Job Description.
All duties are worked on a full shift system and are compliant with the Junior Doctor Contract.
We are part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ which is one of the largest hospital trusts in the country, with around 12,500 staff; an annual turnover of more than £1 billion; and 1.6 million patient contacts a year. Our hospitals have a long and proud history, dating back almost 900 years, and have been at the forefront of medical progress and innovation since they were founded. We continue to build on these traditions and have a reputation for clinical, teaching and research excellence.
Clinical Fellow (Trust Doctor) Paediatric Surgery. The post is based in the Evelina London Children’s Hospital at St Thomas’ Hospital with additional day case activity at Lewisham Hospital where there is a dedicated children’s surgical day care unit. The post holder will gain registrar level experience of general and specialist paediatric surgery including neonatal, colorectal, thoracic and minimally invasive surgery.
The post holder will be part of a team of 6 middle grade doctors in paediatric surgery who work with 3 colleagues in Paediatric Urology to provide a 1:9 on call rota. Duties are worked on an on-call system. Previous paediatric surgical experience is essential but this need not be at middle grade level and an applicant with no previous registrar level experience would be well supported in making this step up in this post. The post
would ideally suit a candidate wishing to enhance their experience before applying for specialist training in paediatricsurgery.
This is not a recognised training post but it attracts the same training opportunities, including study leave, named surgical educational supervisor and a very active educational programme.
