Summary
The Environment Monitoring and Planning (EMP) Programme is a multi-year, multi-million-pound transformation initiative modernising how environmental outcomes are monitored, managed, and planned. Environmental data underpins this mission — enabling sound decisions and driving environmental improvements.
We are seeking three Data Analysts to support the digital transformation of legacy environmental monitoring and planning systems. You will play a key technical role in ensuring new, supplier-developed systems are fit for purpose and meet business requirements.
Working with a range of stakeholders, you will define business requirements, collaborate with digital services to deliver solutions, and support continuous improvement of monitoring and planning IT systems. Partnering with the Data and Analytics Lead, Product Owners, and a multidisciplinary team, you will design robust data pipelines, deliver actionable insights, and ensure reporting solutions meet user needs.
You will also help the organisation adopt modern data tools and practices, provide user training and support, and contribute to transforming how environmental data is accessed, analysed, and applied.
Some experience in environmental monitoring is desirable but is not essential as this stage.
The team
Strategic Monitoring and Planning - Data and Systems is an expanding team who are passionate about transforming Data and IT which supports the business. Our focus is delivering the EMP Programme. The team sits within Monitoring Insights and Innovation in the Chief Scientists directorate and works closely with colleagues in Digital Data & Technology Services (DDTS), external suppliers and a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience/skills required
You will be able to demonstrate a passion for data, its potential to transform our understanding of the issues affecting the environment and how good data management and business intelligence can drive more efficient working across our organisation.
• Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills in terms of technical aspects of the data systems with various stakeholders
• Led end-to-end data initiatives driving business process and performance improvements.
• Consistently deliver high-quality outcomes on tight timelines through strong collaboration.
• Proficient in managing and analysing complex datasets using R, Python, FME, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Power Platform tools ((Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
• Proficient in maintaining data integrity and ensuring compliance with governance standards.
• Experienced in agile methodologies, work in sprints
• Working with Data and Technical Architects within a transformation programme environment
• Ability to provide technical support to the business users
