We are looking for an Advisor to join the Agriculture and Land team, to deliver innovative ways of regulating the Materials to Land sector, as identified in Phase 2 of Project TARA. There will also be a focus on the regulation of wastewater treatment sludges.
What is Project TARA?
TARA stands for Testing Approaches to Regulation for Agriculture. It is a project funded by Defra to enable us to test new ways of improving compliance with regulations applicable to the agriculture sector.
What would I be doing?
As part of the Land and Contamination Management team, you will be implementing findings of Phase 2 of the project in relation to our regulation of Materials to Land.
The environmental objective is to prevent diffuse pollution through evaluation and implementation of new, innovative, ways of working in agricultural regulation, including sewage sludge.
The work will include ensuring GIS mapping (deployments and landbank use) is established, adoption of the ReSP system, delivering training and trialling a Root Cause Analysis methodology. It will be particularly important to demonstrate the impact and reach of this evolving workstream, in doing so raising the profile of the Materials to Land sector.
The team
You’ll join our Land and Contamination Management (LCM) Team, part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate. We lead on materials to land, soil protection and land contamination. The team is dispersed; our strength comes from the way we collaborate and integrate our work.

Experience/skills required

Regulatory experience of biowaste and agriculture
Understanding of the work of the National Permitting Service
Demonstrable experience of using innovation especially within IT
Engaging and listening; comfortable talking to others about your work ideas, receiving feedback and acting on new information or suggestions
Excellent communication skills
Desirable :
Networks within the Environment Agency
BASIS Soils and Water and/or FACTS qualification
