We have an exciting opportunity to join our Blood Science team as Network Haematology and Pre Analytics Manager.

This post is perfect for the correct individual who enjoys interesting challenges and learning new skills.

Part of the role is to manage the Haematology Service across our network. Our GP Hub lab is at George Eliot Hospital which has a fully automated blood science track solution. This processes the Primary Care and OP work for the whole of Coventry and Warwickshire. The UHCW track is also fully automated track system, UHCW is an extremely busy Acute Trust and it is also the site for our haemoglobinopathy service, flow cytometry service and our specialist coagulation service. Our laboratory at Warwick is our hot lab which focuses on the in patient work of Warwick hospital.

The second part of the role is to support the Pre Analytic team to continue to deliver a high quality phlebotomy service across Coventry and Warwickshire for primary and secondary care. It is also to support the specimen reception teams and the transport solution to ensure we have the most efficient delivery system of samples into our Hub laboratory.

• Manage and be accountable for the delivery of the service using an effective and efficient deployment of all resources within areas as defined by the Senior Management Team, including laboratory materials, staff and information across the Network
• Design and develop innovative methods of service provision and work with other managers to plan and implement these processes within the departments, in response to clinical demand and organisational change.
• Interpret and implement Trust and other external polices within CWPS, and work autonomously within agreed polices
• Lead in audit and service redesign, and prepare and present reports when required. Ensure the audit schedules are adhered to as defined in the departmental Quality Management System, and instigate continuous service improvements.
• Review all clinical and non clinical incidents, ensure they are reported and investigated fully within the appropriate timeframes, and are reported through the governance structure in accordance with the Trust’s incident reporting policy.
• Manage and implement changes as directed by the Senior Management Team and Clinical Lead, and take responsibility for risk management within these projects.
• With the Clinical Lead assist and support the Senior Management Team in the strategic evaluation, planning, development and improvement of the Network pathology service, and deputise for the Group Managers when required
• Responsible for producing and delivering a departmental three-year service provision plan including defining and implementing departmental objectives.
• Responsible for the day-to-day operational management, including all aspects of analytical work of the designated area or areas of the service, under the direction of the Group Manager, to ensure the most efficient service is provided to the Users
• Lead in conjunction with other senior staff in the evaluation, implementation and development of existing and new technologies, approved clinical trials and departmental research projects to ensure the continued effectiveness of the service
• Identify and investigate any areas of non-compliance in an efficient and authoritative manner ensuring all necessary corrective actions are implemented, and report back on such incidents to the Senior Management Team and Clinical Lead
• Take a lead in the propagation and maintenance of all laboratory aspects of the CPA/ISO standards/MHRA requirements, HTA regulations, HSE requirements and any other statutory regulations, and ensure the delivery of services in line with the principles of these standards and requirements throughout CWPS
• Lead the management of risk within defined areas, including managing the risk register and cooperate with clinical leads to ensure the service always operates in a safe and efficient manner as would be expected from the service users and all regulatory authorities.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about the service delivery to the Senior Management Team and Clinical Lead promptly with recommendations on ensuring business continuity at all times.
• Take on the role of governance lead for an agreed area of the laboratory and attend/participate in CWPS Governance Board meetings
• Design and oversee scientific and technical training programmes for all grades of staff and ensure training plans are adhered to within the agreed timeframes
• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current and future scientific developments relating to the laboratory, operating to contemporary best practice specifications`
• Authorise complex reports where necessary and communicate specialist scientific information and give expert technical advice to healthcare staff within Pathology and to users within and external to the Trust
• Have line responsibility for the laboratory’s participation in external quality assurance schemes and provide a comprehensive report, by exception to laboratory management promptly when required
• Responsible that all work is completed to the agreed quality standards, is prioritised where necessary and is meeting defined turn-around-times
• Is expert in the use of the Quality management system, and oversees the effective development and/or management of all controlled documentation, non-conformaties and audit reports within the system
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current practice with regard to health and safety, COSHH and risk management, and supports departmental health and safety representatives to ensure all staff comply with all relevant local and external policies
• Work as an effective member of the CWPS Network management team to deliver a fully integrated diagnostic pathology service
