Summary

Universal Destinations and Experiences (UDX) have announced a multi-billion-pound investment in a major new theme park and resort in Bedfordshire in a move that represents a significant vote of confidence in the UK visitor economy and creative industries.

This transformative investment, which is set to deliver one of Europe’s largest visitor attractions drawing 8.5m visitors a year, will bring nearly 20,000 jobs during the construction period, with a further 8,000 new jobs across the tourism and creative industries when it opens. Situated within the OxCam corridor development area, the investment is intended to unleash the potential of wider investment and economic development in the region.

DCMS is leading the Government’s delivery programme to maximise the benefits from the investment in terms of jobs, skills, infrastructure and supply chains working alongside colleagues in Departments for Business and Trade, Transport and the Office for Investment.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join a team, which now looks to deliver this major investment programme and meet a key government growth mission of Kickstarting Economic Growth.

We are looking for an experienced policy advisor to join the team to lead on policy development to further HMG objectives. This is an exceptionally high profile project with interest from across central government, local government and the public, providing opportunities to interact with a variety of stakeholders. The work is varied and novel for HMG, requiring a high degree of initiative and personal ownership to drive progress.

You will work in a high-performing and supportive multi-functional team including alongside project delivery, financial, analytical, and commercial colleagues and you will be expected to work collaboratively, with an understanding of how your work interacts and draws on the support of the functions. The team is also part of a broader cross-Whitehall programme team and there is an expectation that you will regularly work across Whitehall to bring in the right expertise as required.

Key responsibilities, which will evolve over time as the programme progresses, will will include:

  • Overseeing further development of the policy aims for the programme and translating into deliverables working alongside other departments and external organisations (local authorities and private sector organisations).
  • Overseeing future iterations of the strategic business case
  • Owning relationships with key external stakeholders including OGDs (OFI, DBT, HMT) and local authorities including Bedford Borough Council
  • Building new relationships with potential future delivery partners
  • Supporting a multidisciplinary team, with colleagues from different professions, including Project Delivery, Analysis, Commercial and Finance.
