Summary
The Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive pharmacy service across the Trust and to several external community units. It is a large, very busy department with over 180 members of staff including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Science Manufacturing Technicians and Admin staff. There are many varied roles and we all work as a team to provide the different functions and services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care. We have strong links with both the School of Pharmacy, with onsite teacher practitioner posts, and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia.
Electronic prescribing and medicines administration has been implemented across all inpatient wards, the Emergency Department and Outpatients.
Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt, and supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards and external units are provided with a clinical service with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared and supplied to the highest quality standards.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist with well-developed interpersonal skills to join our medical admissions pharmacy team. The team consists of highly-specialist and specialist pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy assistants and provides an enhanced 7-day service to our ED and medical admissions wards. As part of the team you will be responsible for the provision of pharmacy services to these areas.
The post holder will work alongside the lead pharmacists to assist in developing the pharmacy service to the ED and Acute Medical Units, working closely with the MDTs and through utilisation of independent prescribing (upon qualification) to optimise use of medicines in patients admitted acutely. You will be involved in supporting good medicines management in conjunction with the pharmacy and nursing teams in these areas. Applicants will be self-motivated, able to work independently and under pressure. The successful candidate must be willing to learn and we would support professional development within this role.
This role is full time, we provide a 7-day service, working shifts (8:00am to 7:15pm) including weekends (maximum 1 in 4) and bank holidays. We would consider alternative flexible working patterns dependent on the applicant’s requirements.

The purpose of the post is to assist in the delivery and development of a high quality extended hours clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department and the medical admission units.
This a trained practitioner post and the post holder will be working on their own initiative for a significant period of time within guidelines and directions from the Highly Specialist Pharmacist.
This is a progressional post, as such we welcome applications from existing band 6 pharmacists looking to develop towards band 7 as well as existing band 7 pharmacists looking for a change. Candidates who meet the essential criteria for the band 7 post will be started in post as a band 7.
The post holder will be expected to undertake training of rotational and pre-registration pharmacists as well as junior doctors and nursing staff and undertake regular audits of the extended hour service.
