THE LEADERSHIP OF LEARNING
To contribute to the development of the department schemes of work and implement through classroom teaching
To prepare and deliver exciting and challenging lessons to students of all ages and abilities in accordance with schemes of work.
To adopt a variety of strategies to engage all students (including ICT) and be responsive to advice.
To promote good student behaviour.
To mark, evaluate and give regular appropriate feedback on students' work
To assess students’ progress and report to parents periodically in accordance with the Academy guidelines
THE LEADERSHIP OF PEOPLE
To communicate effectively with members of staff in the department, to develop a collegiate working environment
To contribute to Department meetings with creativity and energy.
To keep close contact with parents, tutors and Head of Department to ensure progress of students is best supported
To contribute to House meetings and Year team meetings
THE LEADERSHIP OF RESOURCES AND POLICY
To help develop the Department resources and provide an effective, safe learning environment. To contribute to the review, development and presentation of Department policies and objectives

Head of KS4 Science:

KEY TASKS
THE LEADERSHIP OF POLICY
Involved in the review, development and presentation of Academy and government aims, policies and objectives. To develop supportive relationships within the Academy and the community.
To:
To take part in implementing the above in the department.
Lead, co-ordinate and evaluate the work in Key Stage 4 in relation to the teaching of Science at Uplands.
To take responsibility for the development of schemes of work, assessment and lesson planning in Key Stage 4.
Ensure that the Department environment and ethos is understood by all and underpins and enhances students’ learning and rewards students’ achievements.
Undertake all precautions to safeguard the health and safety of students and staff at all times within the subject area.
THE LEADERSHIP OF LEARNING
Accountable for the quality of learning offered to the students.
To:
Generate, disseminate, discuss, implement and evaluate curriculum for the Key Stage 4 area.
Review students’ work across the age and ability ranges.
Monitor and evaluate the work of the Science team in Key Stage 4 in relation to the teaching of Science including marking and feedback audits and reviewing the impact of teaching and student progress.
Monitor, track and analyse relevant data to make judgments to ensure progress of all students.
THE LEADERSHIP OF PEOPLE
Accountable for the effective leadership and co-ordination of those teaching in the key stage.
To:
Create, maintain and enhance effective relationships and provide support as necessary.
Ensure planning and effective feedback
Ensure cover work is produced when necessary for members of the team.
To work effectively to carry out tasks as directed by the Head of Department with support and guidance from other team members.
THE LEADERSHIP OF RESOURCES
Accountable for the allocation and monitoring of material resources within the key stage.
To:
Liaise with the Head of Science to manage efficiently and cost-effectively the resources available to the Department and set up systems to ensure good stock maintenance.
Ensure resources are used to create and maintain an effective, safe learning environment
Ensure resources are printed as necessary
Monitor and evaluate the use of the physical environment
Monitor and make the Head of Science aware of Health and Safety issues.
THE LEADERSHIP OF COMMUNICATIONS
Communication between specific subject area and subject Director of Learning
To:
Provide information to the Head of Science on Key Stage success and areas for development
Advise the Head of Science on relevant Inset needs and other opportunities
Keep abreast with developments in the key stage area
Attend relevant courses and disseminate the information to the Department
Ensure the Department handbook communicates the correct information linked to the key stage area.
Work with the Head of Science to maintain a high profile of the Department within the Academy and community
As Head of KS4 Science, the additional responsibilities will apply:
Deputise for Head of Department.
Manage, refine and contribute to resources for KS4 curriculum including risk assessments.
Please note this includes the ‘bridging’ year (9).
Manage and refine end of unit test papers and mark schemes.
Analyse KS4 tracking and mock data and make appropriate changes to curriculum and
sets.
Raise attainment and progress at KS4 including delivery of interventions and staff CPD.
Manage KS4 tracker.
Monitor and quality assure KS4 homework.
Lead initiatives to promote Science and increase students’ motivation and enthusiasm for
science.
Oversee KS4 homework including promoting Seneca engagement and catch up for
disengaged.
Manage KS4 calendar including highlighting key dates to staff.
Quality assure KS4 exercise books, assessment folders and lessons.
Work with the technicians to ensure that practical requirements for KS3 are met.
Contribute to science improvement plan.
Contribute to open morning planning and preparation as directed.
Oversee choices regarding tier of entry including providing guidance to staff and students.
