Summary
The Lead Practice Nurse plays a pivotal role in managing and delivering high-quality nursing care within the practice. This includes overseeing clinical services, leading the nursing team, and ensuring compliance with clinical governance, infection control, and safeguarding standards. The role combines hands-on patient care with leadership, mentoring, and service development responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Lead and support the nursing team, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to best practices. Develop and implement care protocols and pathways for chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD). Oversee immunisation programmes, cervical screening, wound care, and other essential nursing services. Ensure safe and effective use of clinical equipment and maintain stock levels. Governance & Compliance Monitor and uphold infection control standards, health & safety procedures, and safeguarding policies. Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with NMC guidelines and CQC standards. Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives. Team Management & Development Mentor and support nurses and healthcare assistants, identifying training needs and facilitating professional development. Conduct appraisals and contribute to workforce planning. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive team culture. Communication & Collaboration Liaise with GPs, practice staff, external agencies, and patients to ensure coordinated care. Contribute to practice meetings and service planning. Promote patient education and self-care.
