SEMH Teaching Assistant - New SEND School - Salford - Step Teachers
Start: ASAP | Pay: £95/day (PAYE)
Hours: Full-time | Mon-Fri | 8:30am-3:30pm
Contract: Temp-to-Perm opportunity
Step Teachers are working with a brand-new SEND school in Salford that supports pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a school from the very start, helping to shape a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for young people aged 11-16 who have struggled to access mainstream education.
This role is ideal for someone confident, resilient, and empathetic, with the ability to stay calm under pressure and build positive relationships with pupils who may display complex behaviour patterns. The school's approach is built on structure, consistency, nurture, and positive reinforcement, giving every pupil the chance to succeed.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll:
- Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups with learning and emotional regulation
- Safely manage behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to promote progress and wellbeing
- Act as a positive role model, encouraging pupils to engage, achieve, and develop resilience
To be successful, you'll need:
- At least 3 months' experience supporting children/young people with additional needs (SEMH, SEND, or behavioural)
- A calm, proactive, and supportive approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
In return, you'll receive:
- £95/day PAYE (no umbrella deductions)
- Equal pay to permanent staff after 13 weeks
- DBS refund after 20 working days
- Free CPD training + Step Perks (24/7 GP access, retail & gym discounts)
- £100 Amazon voucher with our Refer-a-Friend scheme
- Dedicated support from a local SEN consultant with 10+ years' experience
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
- Professional references covering the last 2 years
- Right to work in the UK
- Photo ID & Proof of Address
- CV with a 10-year work history
