Public Protection's Pollution Control Team is currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated Technical Officer. The Team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP and sits within the Council's Public Health, Inequalities and Stronger Communities function.

With 14 officers, the Pollution Control Team's areas of responsibilities include, noise and nuisance investigations, assessment of air quality, identification and remediation of contaminated land, permitting of industrial sites and regulation of private water supplies. Reporting to a Senior Environmental Health Officer, the successful applicant will be responsible for case management of a varied workload including the sampling and risk assessment of private water supplies and providing support to monitor air quality. The role will involve travel one to three days per week to rural and remote areas of Northumberland.

The successful candidate should ideally have both an interest in pollution control and a good practical use of information technology. An understanding of associated legal processes and enforcement is desirable. You will need to be an excellent team player and possess competency in organising and dealing with complex routine and proactive casework. However, applications would be considered from individuals who are looking to develop a career in this area and have previous experience in the sector.

Requirements of the job:

Good standard of education with good literacy and numeracy. Qualified to A-Level standard or equivalent in a relevant science subject
UK Driving Licence
