Summary

Disability Support Worker

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our team at a school in the Whitehaven area. In this role, you will provide support to pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and non-verbal communication needs. You will play a vital role in helping students access their learning, engage in activities, and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide personalised support to pupils with PMLD, ASD, and non-verbal communication needs.
Assist in daily activities, both in the classroom and outside, promoting independence where possible.
Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to implement individual plans and learning strategies.
Provide emotional and physical support, ensuring the well-being and safety of each pupil.
Foster a caring, patient, and supportive environment for students to thrive.
Help with personal care routines as required, in a dignified and respectful manner.
Key Requirements:

Previous experience in supporting children or adults with disabilities, particularly PMLD, ASD, and non-verbal needs, is highly desirable.
A relevant qualification is required.
Demonstrated compassion, patience, and empathy when working with vulnerable individuals.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team, alongside teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different forms of communication.
A positive, resilient attitude and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly.
Location - Whitehaven

Hours - 8.30-3.30 Monday to Friday. (Part time applications also welcomed)

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
