Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

• Are you passionate about the education, well-being and care of young people?
• Are you enthusiastic about students reaching their full potential?
• Are you excited about the possibility of joining a dedicated team of committed and hardworking staff.

St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School & Sixth Form is seeking to appoint an outstanding Pastoral Assistant as soon as possible.

We are seeking an innovative and driven individual who is determined to make an impact within the pastoral team.

This is a key role as we seek to continue to raise achievement across the school. It is an excellent opportunity to work with great colleagues and grow professionally.

St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. It is a vibrant community where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. The Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas, and the school has very recently been through a very successful Ofsted inspection. As a result, we are an oversubscribed school and becoming increasingly popular with families.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to build something special and make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school.

The school requires an enthusiastic and hardworking Pastoral Assistant with responsibility for student welfare to join our team. The purpose of this role is to reduce student absence by working closely with families where students’ attendance is a barrier to their engagement in school life and overall wellbeing. The person appointed will need to improve attendance rates for these students by working closely with external agencies and leading on proactive support plans to remove any barriers affecting students’ ability to attend school regularly.

You will be responsible for:

• Promoting positive attitudes by students and families towards attendance ensuring that parents are made fully aware of their statutory responsibilities.
• Analysing attendance data, identifying students with persistent absence and creating support plans and packages for these students and their families.
• Leading on Early Help Assessments to support families and remove barriers to students’ attendance.
• Working closely with external agencies to ensure appropriate support is put in place.
