Summary

Overhaul Team Member - Dual Skilled (Electrical Fitter)

Contract Role: 18 Months

Location: Manchester Train Care Centre, Longsight, M12 4HR

Shift Pattern: 2 weeks of days, followed by 2 weeks of nights - on rotation.

Hours: 52hrs per week on days and 44hrs per week on nights. (48hrs average over a 4-week period)

Start and Finish times: (Subject to change at client's request)

Days: 07:00 - 18:00 / 07:00 - 15:00

Nights: 19:00 - 06:00 / 20:00 - 07:00


Pay:

  • Pre 12 weeks: PAYE £24.94 per hour / Umbrella £28.51 per hour
  • Post 12 weeks: PAYE £25.60 per hour / Umbrella £30.04 per hour

Additional Retainer: £1.00 per hour (paid upon project completion and return of tooling in satisfactory condition)

This role falls inside IR35 - payment via PAYE or Umbrella Company.

Overview

Join a team of 80+ skilled professionals at Manchester Train Care Centre, working on a major overhaul project for the Class 390 Avanti High Speed Trains. Purpose of the Role

As part of the overhaul team, you will:

  • Service, maintain, repair, and overhaul rolling stock and equipment (including advanced train technologies) in line with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI).
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while seeking opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow depot safety procedures, notices, rules, HASAW, COSHH, and safe working practices
  • Adhere to quality systems and client lifesaving rules
  • Complete electrical and mechanical maintenance (corrective & preventative)
  • Carry out component exchanges, inspections, fault finding and reporting
  • Perform depot duties (route audits, housekeeping/5S activities)
  • Input into SAP/SES systems (training provided)
  • Operate cranes/lifting equipment (if trained and competent)
  • Mentor junior staff when required
  • Support team activities to ensure deadlines and specifications are met

Qualifications & Skills

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent technical training
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or Maintenance (or equivalent with electrical content)
  • Strong communication (verbal & written)
  • Solid technical and IT skills

Experience (one of the following desirable):

  • Rolling stock (locomotives or rail vehicles) - preferred
  • Military (REME or other Military Engineering)
  • Aerospace
  • Automotive vehicles such as HGV's, Buses, Lorries, Electric Vehicles, Automobiles

Requirements

  • Live within commuting distance of Manchester city centre
  • Right to work in the UK and able to provide proof of qualifications
