Summary

Electro-Medical Engineering Services Ltd is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Field Service Engineer to join our experienced and growing team, based in Urmston, Manchester. We are a well-established company specialising in the service, repair, calibration, and ongoing maintenance of medical and physiotherapy equipment. With a reputation built on reliability, quality, and technical expertise, we work with both NHS and private healthcare providers to ensure that vital equipment is safe, accurate, and fully operational at all times.

This is a field-based role that will involve regular travel to hospitals, clinics, and private practices, primarily across the North of the UK. You will also spend time at our Urmston-based workshop, where in-house repairs, servicing, and preparation of equipment are carried out. The ability to work independently, manage your own schedule, and maintain high standards of service while travelling between sites is essential. While most of the work will be within daily travel distance, there may be a small number of occasions each year where overnight stays are required. All necessary expenses will be covered, and accommodation will be provided for any nights away from home.

Your responsibilities in this role will include routine servicing and planned preventative maintenance of a wide range of medical and physiotherapy devices. You will carry out electrical safety testing in accordance with BS EN 62353 standards, perform functional and performance testing, conduct calibrations, and diagnose and repair faults as they arise. You will be expected to keep accurate service records and complete documentation using standard software tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel. A strong eye for detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting are essential qualities for this position. Full training will be provided on specialist equipment and industry standards to ensure you are fully prepared for the role.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a field service or engineering role, particularly in an electronics or medical equipment environment. You should hold a recognised qualification in Electronics, ideally a BTEC in Electronic Engineering or equivalent, and demonstrate a solid understanding of basic electronic theory and fault-finding techniques. Confidence in using standard office software is required, as well as the ability to communicate clearly with clients and colleagues. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential, and you must be comfortable travelling to multiple client sites across the region. Candidates should also be based within a reasonable commuting distance of Urmston, Manchester.

In this role, you will be working with a diverse range of physiotherapy and rehabilitation equipment. This includes treatment couches, therapeutic ultrasound machines, electrical stimulation and interferential devices, biofeedback units, shockwave therapy systems, shortwave diathermy machines, laser therapy equipment, CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machines, and various types of physiotherapy gym equipment. Experience with any of these device types is advantageous but not required, as full product training will be given.

We offer a competitive starting salary of £31,000, with opportunities for salary progression based on performance and experience. In addition, we provide a company vehicle for work-related travel, as well as ongoing training and professional development. You will be joining a supportive, close-knit team of engineers who take pride in their work and are committed to maintaining the highest standards in patient care and equipment safety.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to apply their technical skills in a meaningful and varied role within the healthcare industry. If you're practical, detail-oriented, and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, we would love to hear from you.
