Summary


We’re seeking enthusiastic nurses to develop skills in caring for children and young people (ages 3–25) with complex health needs such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and physical disabilities.

We provide 24/7 specialist care across our school, in the residential and short breaks services at Chailey Heritage Foundation. This unique role involves working in partnership in a supportive environment, empowering young people to express their preferences and take part in activities like crafting, horse riding, swimming, day trips, and holidays.

A lack of relevant experience is necessary as we value empathy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. You will be supported to become competent in catheterisation, tracheostomy care, ventilation, and seizure management.

You’ll gain valuable experience in neurological care and access to ongoing development opportunities to advance your career.

Due to our rural location, access to transport is essential. Free on-site parking and EV charging are available.

To deliver evidence based, skilled nursing care according to the individual child or young person’s health needs, ensuring they receive nursing care promoting a valued lifestyle and independence.

To support nursing staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for children & young people with complex health needs and their families, based on research and evidence of good practice.

To deliver direct personal and intimate care to children & young people.

To provide education, training and support to non-registered and registered professionals, including student nurses and medical students.

To carry out effective medication management, including stock checking, ordering, receiving medication into school and returning medication home, preparation and administration.

To develop skills and knowledge within the field of complex health needs and physical disability, ensuring the relevant clinical skills required for management of safe nursing care are maintained.

Work within a rota covering 24/7, 52-week nursing care to the children & young people accessing Chailey Clinical Services.

Together with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), ensure the consistent delivery of safe, high quality nursing care.

Work across services at CCS, gaining additional nursing knowledge and experience, participating in writing and implementing clinical policies and standards in accordance with local and national standards and clinical policies.

Assess and interpret altered health care needs of the children & young people and in consultation with the MDT, evaluating the effectiveness of care and make adjustments, where appropriate

Develop, implement, and evaluate guidelines/teaching tools for children/ young people/families/healthcare professionals and non-registered professionals.

Report any incidents, child and adult safeguarding concerns through the appropriate routes, in accordance with SCFT guidance.

The nursing team are based at Chailey and are employed by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
