Summary

Finance Officer

Edinburgh Park - hybrid working

Temp contract - up to 3 months with possiblity of extension

£36,000 - £42,500 DOE

Brightwork's key client, a leading public service organisation, is seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join their finance team. This role offers a key opportunity to support the organisation’s financial management by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial systems and contributing to statutory and regulatory reporting requirements. The Finance Officer will focus on maintaining and reconciling the Accounts Payable and VAT reporting functions within the financial system and assist with statutory accounts, VAT returns, Public Service Reform Act reports, and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. This role also includes line management responsibility for at least one member of staff within the Accounts Payable team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of the Accounts Payable and VAT reporting modules, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ongoing compliance reviews.


  • Identify and escalate any financial control weaknesses, non-compliance, or risks, and contribute to policy and procedural development.


  • Produce accurate and timely reconciliations and financial reports for various internal and external stakeholders.


  • Provide support and guidance to colleagues across the organisation, especially on account and tax coding matters.


  • Assist with the preparation of annual statutory accounts, reviewing returns and preparing supporting schedules.


  • Assist with year-end accounts processes including issuing guidance, reviewing submissions, and completing reconciliations and schedules.


  • Manage and support at least one direct report within the Accounts Payable function, fostering development and ensuring effective team performance.


    Essential Skills & Experience

    • Experience of working in a relevant finance role within a busy finance function, with responsibility for monitoring and reconciling balance sheet accounts.


    • Experience of using a Windows-based financial system to process, interrogate and report on financial data.


    • IT literate, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills with the ability to interpret and analyse financial data to identify potential problems.


    • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work to tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy, also the ability to plan, prioritise and organise your own and team workload


      • AAT qualified or equivalent, would be desireable
