About the Role

This role sits within the School Admissions Team, part of the Education Hub and the wider Service Delivery Directorate, which provides a variety of functions supporting the City Council’s Education Division.

As an Admissions Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality administrative and casework support in relation to the statutory duty of school admissions and transfers. You will provide specialist advice to parents/carers, schools, academies, free schools, colleagues and other services and agencies on a wide range of school admissions matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing admission applications for school places and undertaking all related administrative/clerical work.
  • Dealing with complex queries and providing appropriate advice and support to parents/carers, schools and colleagues.
  • Maintaining accurate waiting lists, records of school numbers and class size information, ensuring efficient allocation of places.
  • Supporting with the prevention of children without a school place, liaising with other agencies where required.
  • Preparing and organising admissions information for parents/carers.
  • Supporting parents through the school admission appeals process by preparing documentation and ensuring accurate information is provided.
  • Attending and contributing to admissions information events and promoting awareness of admissions processes and critical timelines.
  • Working across the Education Hub and wider Service Delivery Directorate as required.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with confidence in dealing with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in an office environment and dealing with the public.
  • Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and record-keeping systems.
  • The ability to work accurately, under pressure, and to deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, teamwork and service improvement.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work.

A DBS basic check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
