Southwark Council is seeking a skilled and reliable Gardener to join its Environment, Sustainability and Leisure team. This temporary role fills a gap left by unsuccessful permanent recruitment and offers a hands-on opportunity to help maintain the borough’s green spaces.
About the Role
You’ll be part of a dedicated team responsible for maintaining public gardens, parks, and landscaped areas. The work includes grass cutting, shrub maintenance, and general horticultural duties. A UK driving licence is essential, and trailer experience is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Operate machinery and tools for grass cutting and shrub work
Carry out routine garden maintenance across council-managed sites
Drive council vehicles to and from work locations (trailer experience desirable)
Follow health and safety procedures, including manual handling protocols
Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily targets
Ideal Candidate
Minimum 1 year of professional gardening experience
UK driving licence (essential); trailer experience (desirable)
Relevant horticultural qualification (desirable)
Manual Handling Certificate (required)
Reliable, self-motivated, and physically fit for outdoor work
Able to work Monday to Friday, 07:30–15:00
